Daniel Ricciardo, the AlphaTauri driver who suffered a hand fracture in a practice crash at the Dutch Grand Prix, is ready to resume his F1 season at the United States Grand Prix. The 34-year-old Australian has been out of action for five races, but he participated in a Red Bull show run in Nashville last weekend and confirmed he will be back in his AlphaTauri car for Friday’s practice session at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas.
Ricciardo’s injury occurred in only his third race since returning to F1 after a two-year hiatus. He lost control of his car at Zandvoort and hit the barriers hard. He was taken to the hospital with his left arm in a sling, and an X-ray revealed a broken metacarpal on his left hand.
Ricciardo had to sit out the races in Italy, Singapore, Japan, and Qatar while New Zealander Liam Lawson filled in for him. Lawson impressed with his performances, scoring points in three of the five races. However, he will step aside for Ricciardo’s comeback this weekend. However, his return is still in doubt after the AlphaTauri boss Franz Tost shared some information about his condition.
Franz Tost told me on the grid in Qatar that Daniel was still having difficulties in the simulator, one week ago, with his wrist to complete a full race distance,” Rosberg said on the Sky Sports F1 podcast.
“So we’ll see, I think it will be hard for him to come back and be physically 100%.”
Franz Tost Told the Media
Max Verstappen is already being crowned as the World Champion for the third straight year, but there is still a fight going on between Mercedes, Ferarri, Aston Martin, and McLaren in the Constructors championship for finishing second.
