Announcement of Indian Badminton Teams’ Standings for Asian Games 2023: Men’s Team Secures Direct Entry to Quarterfinals, Women’s Team Eager to Compete
The Indian men’s badminton team has been seeded fourth in the upcoming Asian Games 2023 team competition, while the women’s team will enter the competition unseeded, according to Badminton Asia.
In the men’s team event, Indonesia is the top seed, followed by hosts China as the defending champions and second seed, with Japan as the third seed. This seeding grants the Indian men’s team, consisting of HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, Mithun Manjunath, and doubles pairs Satwik Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty and Dhruv Kapila/Arjun MR, direct entry into the quarterfinals scheduled for September 29.
The Indian men’s team aims to end a 37-year-long medal drought in the team event, with India’s last medal dating back to the 1986 Asian Games. Led by HS Prannoy, a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships, the Indian men’s team has high hopes for success in Hangzhou.
In the women’s team event, China, the silver medalist from 2018, is the top seed, followed by Korea as the second seed. Japan, the gold medalist from Jakarta 2018, is the third seed, while Thailand is the fourth seed. The women’s team competition will include 11 countries, including China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, India, Hong Kong China, Maldives, Mongolia, and Nepal.
The Indian women’s team, led by two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, features a lineup that includes Ashmita Chaliha, Anupama Upadhyaya, Malvika Bansod, and doubles pairs Gayatri Gopichand Pullela/Treesa Jolly and Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Crasto.
India secured a bronze medal in the women’s team event in 2014, and this youthful Indian squad is eager to make an impression when they kick off their campaign in the elimination round on September 28.
