Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, the Indian badminton doubles stars, created history on Sunday night by becoming champions of the Indonesia Open. The talented duo defeated their opponents in a thrilling final to clinch their first ever BWF World Tour title together.
Matthias Boe, the doubles coach and former Olympic silver medallist, was elated with the victory and had planned a celebratory dinner for his players. Keeping in mind the varied tastes of everyone in the team Boe decided to serve an authentic Indian meal cooked by an excellent chef at their hotel.
The match saw Rankireddy and Shetty dominate the court, displaying amazing skills as they overpowered their opponents 21-18, 21-14. This is the first ever title win for Rankireddy and Shetty at the BWF World Tour level which makes this victory even sweeter.
“This was a moment I had been waiting for since long time. It feels awesome to be able to bring home our first title as doubles pair,” said Chirag Shetty after the win.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy echoed similar sentiments and said, “I am really happy that we won the Indonesia Open today. It was a tough match but we managed to pull through in the end. I’m glad our hard work paid off.”
The win at Indonesia Open is a clear indication of how well Shetty and Rankireddy have been playing together in the last few months. The duo had earlier reached the finals of Swiss Open in March and also recently won the Thailand Open this May.
