PV Sindhu and Aakarshi Kashyap advance at the 2023 Denmark Open Super 750, while Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen face exits.

In the 2023 Denmark Open Super 750 badminton tournament at Odense, India’s PV Sindhu and Aakarshi Kashyap delivered impressive performances, securing their spots in the Round of 16.

Kashyap faced off against Germany’s Yvonne Li, and despite the odds, she triumphed in a thrilling encounter. After initially trailing, Kashyap displayed remarkable resilience to mount a comeback. She secured victory with a scoreline of 10-21, 22-20, 21-12. Notably, this marked Kashyap’s first-ever win against the formidable German opponent, a significant achievement for the Indian player.

Sindhu, a double Olympic medalist, also showcased her prowess in the tournament. Her opening-round match pitted her against Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour. Sindhu got off to a strong start, comfortably clinching the first game with a score of 21-14. Gilmour, however, made a comeback by taking the second game 21-18. In a tense decider, Sindhu displayed her determination by swiftly establishing an 11-2 lead in the third game. She ultimately triumphed with a score of 21-10, securing her spot in the pre-quarterfinals.

Unfortunately, not all Indian shuttlers enjoyed the same success. Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen faced disappointing exits in the men’s singles category. Srikanth fought hard but ultimately succumbed to China’s Weng Hong Yang with a scoreline of 21-19, 10-21, 16-21. Meanwhile, Sen suffered a straight-game defeat to Kantaphon Wangcharoen, ending his campaign with a score of 16-21, 18-21.

In the men’s doubles event, the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty gave a walkover to their Malaysian counterparts Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.

As the Denmark Open Super 750 continues, Indian fans are hopeful that PV Sindhu and Aakarshi Kashyap can maintain their winning momentum and progress further in the tournament, potentially adding more glory to India’s performance on the global badminton stage.
