In the ongoing 2023 French Open Super 750 in Rennes, India’s PV Sindhu and the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secured victories in their respective first-round matches.
PV Sindhu, who reached two consecutive semi-finals in the last two weeks, once again displayed her resilience by coming from a game down to defeat world No. 7 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. The match lasted 69 minutes, with Sindhu losing the first game 12-21 but bouncing back to claim the next two games 21-18, 21-15. This victory marked Sindhu’s second consecutive win against Tunjung, following her success at the Denmark Open last week.
On the men’s doubles front, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secured a comfortable 21-13, 21-13 win against France’s Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar. This victory marked their first appearance since becoming the world No. 1 ranked pair after winning the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games earlier this month. They had withdrawn from the Denmark Open last week.
However, the women’s doubles pair of Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda faced a setback, losing 6-21, 16-21 to China’s Li Yi Jing and Luo Xi Min, ending their campaign in the first round.
PV Sindhu’s remarkable comeback and Rankireddy-Shetty’s impressive win mark promising starts for Indian players at the French Open Super 750 tournament. Fans eagerly await their performances in the subsequent rounds of the competition.
