Pramod Bhagat put in an impressive performance on Sunday at the Spanish Para-Badminton International Toledo 2023 – settling for a silver medal in singles, and a bronze in the mixed doubles. Despite losing to Daniel Bethell of England 6-21, 18-21 after 58 minutes of play, the 34 year old ace shuttler’s performance was no less than remarkable. Having won gold in all three categories he participated in during October 2019’s Bangladesh International, it is evident that Mr. Bhagat proves himself as one of the top contenders for Para badminton’s biggest prizes. It will be interesting to follow his progress as we await more such incredible feats from this Paralympic athlete!
After an amazing tournament filled with great upsets, Bhagat and Manisha Ramdass’ impressive run came to an end in the semi-final of mixed doubles. Unfortunately, the pair from India went down fighting against Lucas Mazur and Faustine Noel from France, with a final score of 17-21, 13-21. However, it was still a winning effort that saw them settle for a bronze medal in XD SL3-SU5. Bhagat and Manisha gave it their all but came just short of making the finals. It was surely inspiring for badminton fans watching, having seen the duo fight tooth and nail against their formidable opponents. They will definitely use this experience to better prepare themselves come next year’s major tournament.
Bhagat and Sukant Kadam introduced a formidable challenge in the Men’s Doubles MD SU5 competition when they faced off against the Indian pair of Deep Ranjan Bisoyee and Manoj Sarkar. Unfortunately they lost the quarter-finals match 20-22, 21-12 and 20-22, but their performance still earned them commendation. In Sukant’s individual SL4 competition he was up against France’s Lucas Mazur; however despite his best efforts, a 13-21, 10-21 score secured him second place. Although neither athlete emerged victorious in the tournaments, their impressive display inspired other aspiring athletes to strive for excellence on the global stage.
