In a recent development, former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has raised concerns about the Indian cricket team’s approach to player selection, particularly focusing on the decision to rest Ishan Kishan for the last two T20Is against Australia. Despite showcasing excellent form in the preceding series against Australia, where India secured a 4-1 victory, Kishan was sidelined for the final matches in Raipur and Bengaluru.
Ishan Kishan, known for his aggressive batting style and having an ODI double-century to his name, scored an impressive 110 runs in three outings against Australia, including two fifties. However, Ajay Jadeja expressed his dissatisfaction with the team management’s decision to rest Kishan, emphasizing the need for the young wicketkeeper-batter to have regular game time.
Jadeja was quite furious about not letting Ishan Kishan in and wanted to know when BCCI thinks that a player is ready because he has been consistent with the performance whenever he got the chance. However, the Indian team is still not giving him enough chances, which has been one of the issues in recent years with BCCI, as they do not give players a chance at the right time when they are in form.
The criticism extends beyond the recent series, with Jadeja suggesting that the longstanding issue in Indian cricket is not selecting players but rather rejecting them. He urged the team management to address this problem and ensure that promising players like Ishan Kishan get the chance to flourish and become complete players.
Looking ahead, with India’s tour of South Africa on the horizon starting December 10, Ishan Kishan finds himself named in the T20I and Test squads. However, he was omitted from the ODI team, with Sanju Samson chosen as the second-choice keeper.
India is scheduled to play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Test matches against South Africa. The squads for the respective formats include a mix of experienced players and promising talents, with Rohit Sharma leading the Test side and Suryakumar Yadav captaining the T20I team. The selections indicate a blend of youth and experience as India prepares for the challenging series against South Africa.
