The veteran driver also pointed to the race in Zandvoort, suggesting that a different position during a restart could have altered the outcome. Despite these missed opportunities, Alonso remains adamant that Aston Martin deserved the top spot on the podium.
While McLaren emerged as a surprise package in the latter part of the season, Alonso remains optimistic about Aston Martin’s overall performance in 2023. Acknowledging the struggles towards the end of the year, he sees them as a natural part of the team’s development journey. The team initially exceeded expectations and faced challenges when competing against traditional powerhouses like Mercedes and Ferrari. Alonso believes that, despite the setbacks, the season was a tremendous success, considering the team’s position just 12 months prior.
