Australia vs Pakistan World Cup 2023 Highlights

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first as they wanted to chase down the target like they did against Sri Lanka, but the decision to invite the Aussies first to bat back fired as the openers of the Australian team, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, ran havoc on the field by putting together a partnership of 259 runs for the first wicket. Both batters scored their centuries in the match, and for Mitchell Marsh, it was a special one as it was his first in the ODI World Cup. The runs were raining when both batters were batting, but soon Pakistan bowlers did a late comeback in the match and dismissed batters in short time. Shaheen Afridi took a fifer in the match to stop the Aussies at 367 runs, who were once looking to cross the 400-run mark.

While chasing the target of 368 runs, Pakistan’s start was also good as their openers Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq did a partnership of 134 runs for the first wicket. Both batters scored their fifties, taking Pakistan to a strong position in the match, but Marcus Stoinis drew the first blood by taking wicket in the first ball he delivered. After the dismissal of Abdullah Shafique, soon Imam-ul-Haq also got out. Mohammad Rizwan tried to drag Pakistan towards victory, but he didn’t get much support from the other end as wickets kept falling, and eventually he also got out when Pakistan needed 94 runs more to win. The Australian bowlers cleared the tailenders soon to register their second victory. Pakistan was stopped at 305 runs, and Australia won by 68 runs.

Australia vs Pakistan World Cup 2023 Highlights: Player Of The Match

Australia’s opener David Warner was named player of the match for his exceptional knock of 163 runs that helped Australia to put a huge score on the board.

He says the groin is a little bit sore but feels fine. Adds it was pleasing to put on a stand with Marsh, once they got the pace of the wicket, they targeted their bowlers. Reckons he backed his skills. Believes he was one bit of luck away from scoring runs. Tells he talked with Marsh to bat deep and then go big in the backend. Feels there is still a lot to work in their team. States it is in his DNA to run hard between the wickets.
