Australia vs South Africa World Cup 2023 Highlights
South Africa’s skipper, Temba Bavuma, after winning the toss, chose to bat first at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and the decision to bat first against Australia in high winds didn’t prove good for South Africa. The skipper got dismissed in the first over, and then they lost Quinton de Kock. South Africa was in deep trouble, and the scoreboard looked like it was jammed. The situation got worse for South Africa when they lost four wickets for just 24 runs. Heinrich Klassen and David Miller, two destructive batters from South Africa, kept the game calm and took South Africa over 100 runs, but when the score was 119 runs, Travis Head sent Klassen back to the pavilion, where he scored 47 runs, and on the very next ball, Marco Jansen got out.
The only batter who didn’t let her team down was David Miller, who fought alone from South Africa’s side and scored his first World Cup in 2023. His batting took South Africa to a score of 212 runs.
Australia was the favorite after the end of South Africa’s innings, as they had to chase only 213 runs, but South Africa gave them the challenge to reach there. Travis Head and David Warner provided an explosive start to the team and started scoring runs within boundaries when they were on the crease. They made it look like a completely different pitch as Australia reached 60 runs in just 6 overs.
David Markram took South Africa back in the game by taking the wicket of Warner in the first ball of his spell. South Africa was all pumped up, and Mitchell Marsh’s wicket reignited their hopes of winning the match, but Travis Head didn’t let South Africa’s bowler build pressure and score a fifty. Though Australia lost wickets later in the match, the early blow from the openers provided Australia with enough runs to manage the pressure of the run rate, and at the end, Australia won the match by three wickets.

Australia vs South Africa World Cup 2023 Highlights: Player Of The Match
Australia’s batting all-rounder Travis Head was named player of the match for his excellent performance with both bat and the ball. He scored 62 runs while chasing the target and took 2 wickets while bowling.
Hard to unpack all of that. Tense finish, amazing game. We knew how it (surface) was going to play. Having had three or four days here, you go to bed and think about it. The wickets have been unbelievable, haven’t seen much spin but we knew it was going to be a grind,”
Travis Head post-match
