With the start of the new cycle of World Test Championship(2025-2027), India and England are going to kick off their journey by playing 5 test matches against each other. A new face will lead the Indian test team as Shubman Gill is named India’s new test captain after the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Ben Stokes will be leading the England side for the test series and being a cricketer who is known for his intense attitude on the field he is honest about his take on the former India’s captain Virat Kohli’s presence on the field and how it will impact the game and the test series.

Ahead of the test series, England’s captain said this about Virat Kohli.

I think what India will miss will be his fighting spirit out in the game, his competitiveness, desire to win. He has made number 18 his, hasn’t he? It’ll be a bit weird not seeing number 18 on the back of any Indian shirt,”

Ben Stokes said

Virat Kohli led India to the final of the inaugural edition of the WTC. Unfortunately, India failed to get its hands on the mace in the next edition under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. India again reached the finals but lost to Australia. The two-time finalist will be seen doing another run towards the ICC title from 20th June 2025 in a 5-match test series. Shubman Gill has been assigned the big responsibility, though India would lack the experience due to the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. It will also test whether the youngster can replicate his captaincy in the IPL in test cricket.

The first match of the 5-match test series will be played at Headingley.
