ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India Will Not Play In Pakistan: Reports

India is unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

After successfully conducting the T20 World Cup in 2024 in which, India emerged as champions. ICC is preparing for the next big international cricket event, the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled in Pakistan between February and March 2025. However, according to some reports, the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 due to political reasons and will request ICC to shift the matches to a neutral venue, either Sri Lanka or UAE. Earlier, Pakistan proposed to conduct all matches of India in Lahore to minimize their travel, but BCCI altogether didn’t look very optimistic about the idea of traveling to Pakistan for the tournament.

In May 2024, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told ANI that they would do as the Government of India decides, and the government-to-government relations between these two nations aren’t good.

In the case of the Champions Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India tells us to do. We will send our team only when the Government of India permits. So we will go according to the decision of the Indian government,”

Rajeev Shukla said

Since 2008, India has not played a match in Pakistan. The last bilateral series between the two nations was held in 2012-2013. As political tensions grew between India and Pakistan, no international series happened. The two battled each other only in International tournaments. The latest one was in the T20 World Cup 2024, where India got the better of Pakistan, winning the match by 6 runs.

“India will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. Will tell ICC to hold its matches in Dubai or Sri Lanka,”

A BCCI source said to news agency ANI

In the last Champions Trophy, held in 2017, Pakistan defeated India in the final to become the champions.
