Shubman Gill and Co. dominated England on Day 1 of the 1st Test by posting 359 runs on the board. The contribution from the skipper and the left-handed batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant helped India to get a good start in Test 1. At the beginning of Day 2, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant started the innings with confidence. Rishabh Pant scored his century in his way by hitting a six. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill was reaching 150 but fell short of 3 runs to get there as Josh Tongue caught him at deep backward square leg. Skipper scored 147 runs before getting out.

Karun Nair, who was playing a test match for India after 8 years, got out on a duck as Ollie Pope caught an absolute blinder at covers. After Karun Nair’s wicket, Rishabh Pant misjudged the inswinger and got out. At that time, India was 453/6; England bowlers didn’t let batters afterward score runs as India was bowled out for 471.

England started its innings with Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett. It didn’t take much time for India’s one of the best bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, to draw first blood as he picked up the wicket of Zak Crawley in the first over of the innings. Ollie Pope came to the crease and built the partnership with Ben Duckett. Both batters settled their eyes and built the partnership required to take England’s score to 126 runs. Both scored their fifties, and the skipper turned to Bumrah, who delivered by taking the wicket of Ben Duckett.

Ollie Pope scored his century and held his end. Joe Root couldn’t get through Day 2 and got caught at slip on the score of 28 runs. Harry Brook survived the last over of the Day 2 as England finished with 209/3.
