IND vs ENG, 1st Test, Day 4: KL Rahul And Rishabh Pant’s Ton Guide India To 370 Runs Lead

Rishabh pant after scoring his century in a test match

After a good end to Day 3, India didn’t get a good start on Day 4 as skipper Shubman Gill, who scored a marvelous century in the first innings, got out early on Day 4; then came Rishabh Pant, who partnered with KL Rahul. The two increased the lead of India and gave a hard time to England’s bowlers. KL Rahul reached his fifty in 87 deliveries, and Rishabh Pant from the other end picked up the momentum and started slashing the deliveries hard to the boundary ropes whenever necessary. Both batters scored centuries, and the wicket-keeper batter became the first Indian player to score centuries in both innings against England.

After scoring a century, there was no stopping Rishabh Pant as the batter tried to increase the lead further by dealing in boundaries and sixes, and while doing that, he got caught at long-on by Zak Crawley. Brydon Carse picked up the wicket of KL Rahul, who got out after scoring 137 runs. Karun Nair couldn’t score more than 20 runs as he got caught and bowled by Chris Woakes. After seeing a good partnership, India was losing wickets quickly down the order. Josh Tongue dismissed three batters in the 91st over of the match to restrict India to under 400 runs.

India got bowled out for 364 runs as England had to chase the target of 371 runs to win the game. In the final hour of Day 4, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett opened for their team and protected the wickets perfectly to put 21 runs on the board. Both teams have work to do on the final day of the first test as England still has to chase 350 runs in the 90 overs, whereas Indian bowlers must sweat hard to pick up wickets to win the first test of the series.
