DC vs CSK: The 13th match of the IPL 2024 relieved the Delhi Capitals‘ fans as the team registered its first victory of the 2024 edition, playing against Chennai Super Kings at ACA-VDCA cricket stadium, Visakhapatnam. The venue is the second home ground of DC for IPL 2024. After losing two back-to-back matches away from home, Rishabh Pant and Co. bounced back hard to defeat the table-toppers CSK at Visakhapatnam. Chennai Super Kings lost their first game under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Rishabh Pant and co., after winning the toss, chose to bat first, which was an interesting decision as the pitch experts recommended otherwise. Prithvi Shaw and David Warner started the innings for the DC, and both batters took advantage of field restrictions and posted 62/0 at the end of 6 overs. David Warner scored his fifty, and when he tried hitting a slower delivery of Mustafizur Rahman playing his favorite reverse shot, he was caught at short third man by Matheesha Pathirana by taking an absolute blinder. Later, Prithvi Shaw caught behind the wickets, but DC’s skipper Rishabh Pant, scoring his first fifty in the IPL 2024, took his team to a total of 191 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 192 runs, CSK’s start wasn’t ideal as skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad got dismissed in the first over of the innings. DC’s bowler Khaleel Ahmed didn’t give Kiwi batter Rachin Ravindra much room and also took his wicket. CSK’s openers were in the dugout, and the clouds of trouble started hovering over CSK; though Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell tried to keep the required run rate low, DC’s bowler didn’t let them go far in the match. Power hitter Shivam Dube contributed just 18 runs in the chase before getting dismissed, though MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja tried their best, with Dhoni hitting some sixes at the end. But they couldn’t change the inevitable and lost the match by 20 runs.
