SRH vs MI: The 8th match of the IPL 2024 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians was historical for cricket fans as the “Orange Army” broke all the previous IPL records of scoring runs and posted a total of 277 runs on the board in 20 overs. This was the highest total in the history of the IPL, with 14 runs, more than the decade-old record of Royal Challengers Bengaluru of 263 runs. Mumbai Indians, in reply to the mammoth chase, reached the score of 246 runs and lost the match by 31 runs.
Mumbai Indians’ new captain Hardik Pandya, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first. SRH opened their innings with new addition Travis Head and right-handed batter Mayank Agarwal. Travis Head didn’t waste time and cleared his intentions. He started smashing the bowlers and kept the bowlers on their toes. Continuing his innings, he scored the fastest fifty for SRH, but the local boy Abhishek Sharma surpassed that record of Travis Head and scored his fifty in just 16 balls, the fastest by an SRH batter. Players like Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram continued the momentum, where the former scored an astonishing 80 runs in just 34 balls. SRH posted 277/3 in 20 overs.
Chasing the mammoth total of 278 runs, Mumbai Indians started well with Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma doing what needed to be done, coming out all guns blazing. Ishan Kishan scored 34 runs off 13 balls before getting dismissed. Rohit Sharma was dismissed on 26 runs after losing both openers. Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir built the partnership where the former looked in fantastic touch, scoring 64 runs off 34 balls. He kept the chase the total alive but was trapped by the skipper Pat Cummins in a slower delivery. Batters afterward failed to pull the run heist, and Mumbai Indians lost the match by 31 runs.

“That was insane. The ball was really pinging around. Not until we bowled, it got a bit too close for comfort. They found a boundary whenever they needed it, but we finished it off well. Really impressive, in IPL you play with a lot of pressure but he plays with great freedom.

Wicket was good, 277 no matter how bad or good you bowl, if the opposition has to score that much, they have batted well. They (the bowlers) were good, it was tough out there, almost 500 runs were scored and the wicket was helping the batters, we could have done a few things here and there, but having said that, we have a young bowling attack and we will learn.
