MI vs RR: Rajasthan Royals countered Mumbai Indians at the latter’s home to register their third straight victory in the IPL 2024. Rajasthan Royals entered the ground with a plan, and its players executed that perfectly. Whether it was the bowling department or batting, RR outclassed MI in every aspect. This was Mumbai Indian’s third consecutive loss in the tournament, and now they are at the bottom of the chart, whereas RR is leading the board with three wins in three matches.
RR’s skipper Sanju Samson, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first and handed the ball to one of the finest bowlers, Trent Boult, who has a habit of taking wickets in the first over of the match, and this time, it was no different. He silenced the crowd at Wankhede by dismissing Rohit Sharma on a duck if that wasn’t enough in the following delivery he sent back Naman Dhir to the dugout. The impact substitute Dewald Brevis was another victim of the left-arm attack, and he, too, didn’t get off the mark. Mumbai Indians were on the back foot, though Ishan Kishan hit some boundaries to give spectators moments to cheer; he could only score 16 runs as another left-armer, Nandre Burger, dismissed him. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma tried taking their team to a respectable score, but they couldn’t, and MI ended its innings with 125/9 on the board.
Chasing the target of 126, Rajasthan Royals didn’t rush. RR’s openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, started cautiously. However, MI’s bowlers tried giving early shocks and picked up the wickets of Yashavi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson. They couldn’t upset RR; like in the last two matches, Riyan Parag held his ground and scored his second fifty in the IPL 2024. The right-handed batter remained unbeaten with 54 off 39 balls. RR reached the target in 15.3 overs with 27 balls left.

“Yes, a tough night, we didn’t start the way we wanted to start. I wanted to counter, we were in a decent position to get us around 150-160, but my wicket allowed them to get back more into the game, I needed to do a lot more. “It’s okay, we didn’t expect such a surface, but you can’t always have it as a batter, it’s nice at times for the bowlers to have a say. It’s all about doing the right things, (correct) results happen at times, at some other times it doesn’t”
Hardik Pandya said Post-Match
“I think the toss was the game changer. The wicket was too sticky to start off, and the experience of Boult and Burger helped us. He’s playing since 10-15 years, and that is what we expected with the new ball. “Didn’t expect 4-5 wickets to fall, but we knew our bowlers would do well. We know we have big individuals in our team, but where we stand out is everyone recognises their role, does it and moves on”
