RCB vs KKR: Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in the 10th match of the IPL 2024, faced defeat against spirited Kolkata Knight Riders at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Shreyas Iyer and Co. thumped the home team to register their second consecutive victory in the league and moved up in the points table. This is the first time this season that a team won a match away from his home ground. Although RCB posted a total of 182 runs on the board, that wasn’t enough to steal the victory in the game, and KKR handed them their second defeat in the three matches they played.
After winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer chose to bowl first and invited the home team to bat. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis started the innings for RCB, and as per the reputation of the venue, the first ball of the match found itself behind the boundary line, but the excitement soon got over as skipper Faf was trapped by Harshit Rana in a slower delivery at short fine leg. Cameron Green and Virat Kohli didn’t let the run rate drop and played some fine shots to post 61/1 at the end of the powerplay after the dismissal of Green’s batters failed to provide the needed support to Kohli from the other end. Wickets fell at regular intervals, but Virat Kohli scored his second consecutive fifty, and some shots played by Dinesh Karthik at the end helped RCB put 182 runs on the board.
KKR’s exciting decision to send Sunil Narine to open the chase with Phil Salt paid as the left-handed batter demolished the RCB’s bowling line-up in the first six overs of the powerplay. Sunil Narine scored 47 runs in just 22 balls to provide the start needed for his team. KKR scored 85 runs in the powerplay, the highest in the IPL 2024. Later, the Iyer duo(Shreyas and Venkatesh) built the match-winning partnership to clinch the victory in the 17th over of the game. Venkatesh Iyer scored his first fifty in the IPL 2024 but got dismissed after scoring his fifty. KKR finished the chase in 16.5 overs.
