DC vs MI: Mumbai Indians won their 2nd game of the season after clinching a thriller against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

Delhi Capitals, after winning the toss, elected to bowl first. Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton gave a good start to their team and deposited 47 runs on the board inside 5 overs. Vipraj Nigam got the first breakthrough for his team as the all-rounder dismissed Rohit Sharma on 18 runs. Ryan Rickelton was smashing DC’s bowlers, but Kuldeep Yadav again got the crucial wicket of the left-hander. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma took the innings forward to the score of 135 runs. Surya got out after scoring 40 runs, but Tilak Varma kept going to score his fifty. Mumbai Indians went on to score 205 runs at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing a total of 206 runs, DC lost their first wicket in the first ball of the chase; Jake Fraser McGurk got out for a duck. Delhi Capitals’ X factor of this match was Karun Nair, who utilized the chance to get in as an impact player. The right-handed batter was playing the dream innings for his team. Karun Nair scored fifty in just 22 balls, taking the score of DC to 72 runs at the end of powerplay. Abishek Porel was supporting the batter from the other end. Both batters were cruising their team to victory, but in the 11th over, Porel got caught as the partnership of 119 runs ended. Mitchell Santner did the task for MI and dismissed Karun Nair on 89 runs. Though DC required fewer runs to chase, MI bowlers picked up wickets to down DC to just 3 players, and in the 19th over, a hat-trick of run-outs stopped DC on 193 runs.

Absolutely. Winning is always special. Especially in games like this. You have to keep fighting and it means a lot. We were getting out of options of what to bowl at him. The way he took on our bowlers, took his chances, and the way he executed. It shows the hard work he has put in. I think he took us by surprise. [On Karn] Fantastic. Coming in and bowling the way he bowled, showed a lot of heart, especially at a small ground like that. [The hat-trick of run-outs] I always believe fielding is something which can change the game upside down. We were switched on, didn’t give up and they got the chances and converted. Amazing. [On the batting lineup] It’s always going to be depending on the situation. The more the in-form players try to face the balls and take responsibility… Obviously dew played a factor later. Just by making sure the game is not over till its over.

We had the game. I think we had soft dismissals from the middle order, some bad shots. We lost by 12 runs with an over to go so we could have still won it. It can’t happen that your lower order batters will always come save you in chases. There are some odd days where you play wrong shots, so I don’t think there is any point in thinking too much about it. I thought 205 was a great target because it was a good pitch and dew was also coming. Maybe if we had caught better, we’d have kept them to lower. I get confidence in bowling all three of our spinners. And two of the three can also bowl in the powerplay. Kuldeep is bowling unbelievably this season. Whenever I need a wicket I can go to him. I think there were a lot of positives today, we just need to forget about this game.”
