Nehal Wadhera after winning the match against RCB

RCB vs PBKS: RCB remained winless at home after losing to Punjab Kings in the 34th match of the IPL 2025.

Punjab Kings invited RCB to bat first after winning the toss. It wasn’t the day of the opener Phil Salt. Though he opened his run account with a boundary, his innings couldn’t go beyond that, as he was caught in the 1st over. Then Virat Kohli got out, and Punjab Kings bowlers kept the pressure on the opposition, which resulted in the debacle of the RCB’s batting department as wickets kept falling, and whoever got the ball picked up a wicket for his team. It was in the 12th over when RCB was down to just one man, and Tim David showed his power-hitting abilities and scored fifty in just 26 balls to take his team’s score to 95 runs at the end of 14 overs.

While chasing the target of 96 runs, Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh hit a few shots to give the start to his team. Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed him to get the first breakthrough for his team, and Josh Hazlewood took Priyansh Arya’s wicket. RCB was back in the game. Josh Inglis and Skipper Shreyas Iyer departed after that, but left-handed Nehal Wadhera took responsibility and started the counterattack to reach closer to the target. He scored 33 runs for his team to achieve the target in 12.1 overs, winning the match by 5 wickets.

“Variety is the spice of life and we are here to experience all kinds of games here, it’s a great challenge. [On his captaincy decisions] There was no thinking to be honest, I was just taking instinctive moves. I just didn’t want new batters to come in and settle in. Jansen was getting a lot of bounce, and he was bowling lethal. To be honest we didn’t know how the wicket was going to feel but the bowlers adapted to it. I had a chat with Arshdeep and he said the hard length balls were hard to hit. That was the chatter in the middle and they executed brilliantly. [On Wadhera] His approach was wonderful today. [On Chahal] I personally had a chat with him and told him that you are match winner and you need to get us as many wickets as possible and you don’t need to be safe. He has a capability of bouncing back and he is one of the best bowlers in the IPL.”

Shreyas Iyer(Punjab Kings’ Captain) said post-match

“Initially it was sticking, and was two-paced. But I think we could have done far better as a batting unit. Partnerships are important in batting. We have been losing wickets in intervals. We left Padikkal out due to the conditions. Wicket was not that bad. It was under cover for a long time. It helped Punjab, and the way they bowled, credit goes to them. The bowling unit is doing pretty well. We have confidence on our bowling unit. Sometimes it clicks [the batting], sometimes it doesn’t. We’ll look at the batting unit first.”

Rajat Patidar(RCb Captain) said post-match
