DC vs KKR: KKR defeated Delhi Capitals in the 48th match of the IPL 2025 to remain in the playoffs hunt.
Delhi Capitals, after winning the toss, decided to bowl first. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine opened for KKR. Both openers gave the start required by their team and deposited 48 runs on the board in 2.5 overs. However, Mitchell Starc dismissed Gurbaz on 26 runs. KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Suni Narine took the innings forward, but it was the spin attack of Delhi Capitals that troubled the KKR batters and choked the runs; Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh partnered for a while and hit some runs. Andre Russell contributed in the end to take the score to 204 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 205 runs, Abishek Porel and Faf du Plessis opened the innings for DC. Porel hit a boundary in the first delivery, but Anukul Roy made a comeback to pick up Porel’s wicket for the next delivery. Faf du Plessis and Karun Nair took the innings to the score of 43 runs, but a brilliant inswinger from Vaibhav Arora hit Karun Nair’s pad, and DC lost its second wicket. KL Rahul got lazy while taking a single, and a direct hit from Sunil Narine sent the batter back to the dugout. Axar Patel and Faf’s partnership kept the DC’s hopes alive, but it was the hand injury of Axar Patel that was affecting his shot-hitting abilities as he got caught on 43 runs from their DC’s batters failed to get to the target as KKR batters kept taking the wickets. “The way we bowled in the powerplay, thought we gave 15-20 too many. in the chase, there were some miscalculations and soft dismissals. The way we restricted them after the powerplay was good. The way we batted, even if two-three batters did well, we lost by very little. When you lose close matches, you know you have to be calm in the middle. When Vipraj was scoring runs, we had hopes. If Ashutosh would have stayed, it would have helped. Luck sometimes works in your favour and sometimes against. [Hand] My hand dragged on the surface, so the skin peeled off. So whenever I tried batting, it was paining. We have three-four days gap before SRH game, so I hope to recover.”

Not bad, I’ll be okay, I’ll be fine. When Sunil came into bowl and picked up two wickets, and when they lost three wickets in the middle, I thought that was the game for us. We felt we were short. Sunil bowled well, good support from Russell, and Roy bowled well. He has been doing well for us, thought let’s back him. What’s important for is to take confidence from this moment. [Narine] He’s been a champions bowler for this franchise. A match-winner. As a captain, good to have him and Varun. Narine has been coming early for the practice sessions, working hard, batting as well. [Russell] Dre as well is working hard on his bowling. He is bowling yorkers in training and we thought we can back him. He has been fantastic for us, whenever he has bowled, he has picked up a wicket.”
