CSK vs PBKS: Chennai Super Kings lost another match at Chepauk this season as Punjab Kings defeated them by 4 wickets in the 49th match of the IPL 2025.

Punjab Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. Shaik Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre opened the innings for CSK. Both batters looked good, but it was in the 3rd over of the powerplay when CSK lost its first wicket as Shaik Rasheed got caught, and then Ayush Mhatre got out in the next. After two right-handers, two left-handers, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, were on the pitch. Jadeja scored three boundaries in the last over of the powerplay before getting out. Dewald Brevis partnered with Sam Curran to take the score to 126 runs. Brevis got out after scoring 32 runs. The strong batting line-up of CSK, including MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube, was cleaned by Punjab Kings’ bowlers. Chasing 191 runs, Punjab Kings’ openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gave a good start to their team and took the score to 44, but a slow bouncer did the work for CSK as Priyansh Arya got dismissed after scoring 23 runs. I love chasing on any field. I feel like I thrive whenever there is a big total on the board and you need to take the charge and momentum for the team for the rest of the batters to come and go full throttle. I don’t want to curse it [his away form] and just stay in the present and reacting to the ball. It doesn’t matter where I am playing. I just play with my approach. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Lately I have been battin ga lot in the nets and facing the quick bowlers, especially with the new ball and that’s given me immense confidence. This is one part I have really worked on. And the attitude is something that I keep high whenever I approach the field. So I think all these small boxes have been ticked and that’s there to see. More than batting, the fielding was difficult since I was running from long-on to long-on. We had to maintain over rate and I had to think at the nick of time. The humidity was more than any other field I’ve played on.

I think the batting, yes it was the first time we put enough runs on the board, but I feel it was slightly short of a par score. It’s demanding on the batsmen but we needed slightly more. The partnership between Curran and Brevis was fantastic. I think we need to take our catches. I think Curran is a fighter, we all know. Unfortunately whenever we have tried to give him a chance so far, it was a slow wicket but today’s wicket was the best one we had at home this season. [On Brevis] I think it’s momentum in the middle order and he’s a very good fielder and he has good power so he can hit good balls for boundaries. He brings energy in the field too. We needed that fresh air, someone not caught up in the spiral. He can be an asset going forward.”
