Jitesh Sharma after scoring his fifty

LSG vs RCB: RCB finished the league stage of the IPL 2025 at number 2. This is the third time RCB has finished their league matches in the top two after securing the top two spots in 2011 and 2016.

After winning the toss, RCB’s stand-in captain, Jitesh Sharma, decided to bowl first, and Nuwan Thushara was quick to strike. He bowled Matthew Breetzke to get the first wicket for RCB. LSG skipper Rishabh Pant came to the crease and built a partnership with Mitchell Marsh to take his team’s score to 100+ in 10 overs. While doing that, he scored his fifty; opener Mitchell Marsh also scored his fifty as the two batters partnered for 152 runs before Marsh got caught behind on 67 runs. Rishabh Pant kept going and scored his first century of this season. Rishabh Pant’s 118 runs helped his team put a total of 227 runs on the board at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing the target, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt gave their team an explosive start, putting 60 runs on the board in 5 overs. Phil Salt’s innings came to an end in the 6th over as a slower bouncer by Akash Singh did the work. Soon, Rajat Patidar got out in the 8th over, followed by Liam Livingstone, who got caught in front of the wicket in the next ball. RCB was in trouble, but Mayank Agarwal had a brief partnership with Virat Kohli, as the two didn’t let the required run rate go too high. Virat Kohli got out after scoring 54 runs for his team, and much work still needed to be done. Then came stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma, who was in a different zone. The right-handed batter built the partnership with Mayank Agarwal, and the former was dealing with boundaries. Both batters made the chase look easy. Jitesh Sharma scored an unbeaten 85 runs to take his team to a 6-wicket win over LSG.

Eventually you’ve got to play 40 overs of good cricket. Twenty overs aren’t going to save you. I was feeling well with each and every match. But sometimes it just doesn’t come off. Whenever you get a start, try to make it as big as possible. I was trying to play the field – how they were going to bowl Just playing through the line. Just kept on playing with the same intensity throughout the innings. There will be lot of areas where we will be talking. But the season is just ending. Just want to switch off for a few days. The way our batting unit has come up, there have been some special bowling performances also. We’ve been getting chances, but we haven’t been able to maintain. That is costing us the match.”

“I will not be able to express my thoughts! I can’t believe I played that knock. When Virat bhai was out, I was just thinking of taking it deep. As my mentor and guru Dinesh [Karthik] anna says, just take it deep. I was getting cramps because all the load was on me! I have Virat bhai, Krunal bhai and Bhuvi bhai with me. I feel excited that I’m playing with them. We want to enjoy the moment. But we’ll try to recover well. We’ll look to carry the momentum into the next match. Credit goes to Rajat. I had the responsibility of maintaining his record. Hazlewood will perhaps play in the knockout. We have a strong belief system. We have match winners. Look at our playing XI, and we have match winners.”
