IPL Player Ashwin Penalized for Public Criticism

Ravichandran Ashwin, the spin wizard of Rajasthan Royals, found himself in hot water after breaching the Indian Premier League‘s Code of Conduct. The consequences for his actions were severe, and he was fined 25 percent of his match-fees. The breach happened during a game against Chennai Super Kings, and Ashwin accepted his Level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. The Match Referee is the superior authority when it comes to Code of Conduct breaches, and Ashwin’s punishment is final and binding. It’s unfortunate to witness a renowned player going against the rules, but it’s a clear indication that the IPL is not afraid to take stern action against such behavior.
When it comes to sports, emotions can run high and sometimes players or officials may say things in the heat of the moment that they might later regret. This seems to be the case with cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently made some public criticisms regarding umpire decisions in the 2023 Indian Premier League. The Article 2.7 of the rules state that any criticism or inappropriate comment made in relation to an incident occurring in a match or towards any player, team official or match official participating in a match is not permitted. Ashwin’s comments may have landed him in hot water with the league officials.
The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) has certainly brought some surprises along with it. As a cricket enthusiast, I have been left a little flummoxed by some of the on-field decisions that have been made this year. While a bit of unpredictability is always exciting in any sport, it’s important to strike a balance between fairness and competitiveness. Recently, our bowling team found themselves having to deal with an unexpected change when the umpire decided to swap out the ball without a clear reason. Needless to say, this left us all scratching our heads. Despite this, we are keeping our spirits high and positioning ourselves to tackle whatever comes our way. After all, that’s what the game of cricket is all about – responding to challenges and pushing your limits.
Cricket is a game of precision and timing. Every little detail counts, from the angle of the bowler’s arm to the speed of the ball. But what happens when the game gets slowed down, not by the players’ skills, but by their attitude? This is exactly what happened in a recent IPL match, which resulted in Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson being fined a whopping INR 12 crore for slow over-rate. It’s clear that every second counts in this fast-paced game, and Samson’s team failed to maintain a standard that was expected of them. As fellow cricketer Virat Kohli said, “you can do whatever you want but you need to be standard.” It’s a lesson that all sports players should take to heart, as it’s not just about winning, but about playing with integrity and respect for the game.
