Mitchel Starc came back in the IPL with a bang after eight years as Kolkata Knight Riders brought him at 24.75 crore after having a bid-war with Gujarat Titans.
Kolkata and Gujarat Titans might have gone too much for Starc because he is an injury-prone player, and right now, he is 33 years old, which is old age for a pace bowler. He had a good 2023 season in the 14 ODI he played, in which he took 25 wickets. He played 27 IPL matches in which he took 34 wickets and can be crucial for the Kolkata Knight Riders for the death overs.
The Captain of the ODI World Cup-winning team Australia, Pat Cummins, broke the record for being the 2nd highest-paid player in the history of IPL as Surisers Hyderabad went all-out for him with 20.5 Crore Rupees which broke last year’s Sam Curran’s record, who was sold for about 18.5 Crore to Punjab.
The Sunrisers are looking for Cummins to be their captain for next season because he showed his skill in the World Cup. However, he was unavailable for the IPL last year due to his preparation for the World Cup, which clearly made a difference as he went on to win the title. He will be the key bowler and can also bat down the order, which he used to do for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
A few other players who have been sold till now in the mini IPL Auction 2024 are Rachin Ravindra, who went for 1.8 crores and was brought up by Chennai Super King, which is said to be a steller bargain buy because, in his debut World Cup, he was the 2nd highest run-scorer.
Hyderabad also had a steal deal as they brought Wanindu Hasaranga at his base price of 1.5 crore, which is an amazing price for a skilled spin bowler like him. Shardul Thakur went back to Chennai Super Kings for about 4 crores, where he thrived under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in the past, but in recent times, his performance dipped. Punjab Brought Harshal Patel for 11.75 crores and the new exciting Gerald Coetzee went to Mumbai Indians for 3.4 crores.
The other exciting player who will play in IPL 2024 is Daryl Mitchell, who can replace Ben Stokes as Chennai brought him for 14 crore. The first break of the IPL mini Auction ended with Chris Woakes going to Punjab Kings for 4.2 Crore. LSG bought Mavi for 50 Lakhs.
