The 47th match of the IPL 2025 brought one of the most spectacular performances ever seen by the cricket world. A young 14-year old boy from the state of Bihar, India, Vaibhav Suryavanshi taking on world class bowling line-up which includes the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma, Rashid Khan, Washington Sundar and never hesitating to smash their deliveries out of the park at will was something astonishing to watch. The night will be remembered for ages as left-handed batter not only became the youngest cricketer to score a century in a T20 match but also broke a dozen of cricket records too.
Player Of The Match Records:
- Earlier, Afghanistan’s cricketer, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, held the record for being the youngest cricketer(17 years, 39 days) to get a Player of the Match in the IPL. Now its Vaibhav.
- In Men’s T20 history, he became the youngest to get a POTM.
Fastest Century Records:
- Vaibhav now holds the record for the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history. Interestingly, Yusuf Pathan earlier held the record, and he made it while playing for Rajasthan Royals.
- It was the second-fastest century in the IPL after Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century.
- Fastest century by an uncapped Indian batter surpassing, Priyansh Arya’s 39 balls century.
- Fastest IPL century against Gujarat Titans.
Youngest Cricketer To Break T20 And IPL Fifty And Hundred Records
- He was the youngest cricketer to score a fifty in the IPL, surpassing Riyan Parag, 17 years and 175 days old when he scored his fifty.
- He is the youngest cricketer to score a century in the IPL, surpassing Manish Pandey, who was 19 years and 253 days old when he scored his century.
- The youngest cricketer to score a century in the Men’s T20 earlier, Vijay Zol, 18 years 118 days old, held this record.
- The only batter to score a T20 century under 18 years of age.
After his scintillating performance, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar praised the young talent and announced an INR 10 lakh cash prize, which will inspire many others to follow suit.
“Congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of IPL…..Mr. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young cricketer from Bihar, will also be given an honorarium of Rs 10 lakh by the state government. I wish that Vaibhav creates new records for the Indian team in the future and brings glory to the country.”
