MI vs KKR Match Prediction: Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 22nd Match of IPL

MI vs KKR Match Prediction: Mumbai Indians will host Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on April 16, 2023.

Mumbai Indians got their first win in their previous match against the Delhi Capitals side by 6 wickets which turned out to be the last ball thriller, but still, they were able to win it. However, the match was under their control till the 17th over. They were also lucky because Mukesh Kumar dropped the catch of Tim David in the 19th over, which let them run 2 instead of giving their own wicket.

Rohit Sharma scored his first Half-Century in the Indian Premier League since the 2021 season, which was against the same side Delhi Capitals. The bowling of Mumbai Indians did really well, especially the veteran leg spinner Piyush Chawla who took three wickets in the match.

Kolkata Knight Riders faced defeat in their last match against the SunRisers Hyderabad by 23 runs, but they still fought hard till the end and were able to score 205 runs which is great for a chasing team. Their captain Nitish Rana played fine innings of 75 runs in 41 balls, and once again, Rinku Singh played a fantastic inning of 58 in 31 balls.

It was a hell day for the Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers who conceded too many runs, and it was Harry Brook who at last showed his potential and class. He scored a century in 55 balls, and Aiden Markram scored 50 runs in 26 balls, hitting 5 sixes in his explosive innings.

Andre Russel surprisingly bowled in the match and took his first wicket on the first ball and second wicket in the same over. He was unable to finish his overs because he had a minor injury which is nothing new with Russell, and he bowled only 2.1 overs and took three wickets.

Mumbai Indians are in the 2nd last spot with 1 win and 2 losses. Kolkata Knight Riders are in the 4th spot with 2 wins and 2 losses after the 19th match of IPL 2023.

MI vs KKR: Head-to-Head Record

Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders played against each other 31 times, in which Mumbai Indians had the upper hand winning 22 of them, and Kolkata Knight Riders won just 9 matches, but in the last two matches against each other, Kolkata Knight Riders won both the matches easily, and right now they have the better form in the IPL 2023 so it will be a tough match for each side.

MI vs KKR: Pitch Report of Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai of last 11 matches

Matches Played11
Batting first won3
Batting Second won8
Average first innings score167 runs
Pace bowlers took78 wickets
Spin bowlers Took39 Wickets

Wankhede stadium pitches are mostly batting-friendly, but recently the trends have changed, and everyone gets something from the pitch, like in the last match. Both teams scored decent runs, and spinners and pacers also got wickets, so it was a wicket with a neutral surface.

Wankhede pitch is mostly batting-friendly in a few opening matches, but after that, spinners get into the game. The pitch on this ground is a dusty pitch that holds the ball and gives it an uneven bounce, which helps pace bowlers to surprise batters. There are two types of pitches in the stadium. The first is a dusty pitch, and the other is a green pitch which favors batters more.

The Highest team total on this ground in IPL is 235 by Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Mumbai Indians side in IPL 2015, in which AB de Villiers smashed 133 runs in just 59 balls and Virat Kohli 82 runs in 50 balls.

MI vs KKR: Team Preview of Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians got their hands on the first win in their previous match against the Delhi Capitals by 6 wickets, and it can be a turning point for the Mumbai Indians as a team because they all contributed together as a team.

Rohit Sharma, at last, showed his class in the previous match and scored the Half-Century after 2 years in IPL. Ishan Kishan was also seen in good touch, but still, Suryakumar Yadav’s struggles continued as he got out on duck again, which is his 6th duck in 11 innings, which is the worst form any batsman can be in.

Tilak Varma is looking in great form, and once again, he scored 41 runs in 29 balls that gave Mumbai Indians good control. The most positive thing for the Mumbai Indians side was their bowling unit clicked well in the match as they were able to bowl out the Delhi Capitals before 20 over finished.

Jason Behrendorff and Riley Meredith took 5 wickets together which gave Mumbai Indians side a great positive in the upcoming matches in the IPL 2023.

MI vs KKR: Team Preview of Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kolkata Knight Riders lost their last match against the SunRisers Hyderabad by 23 runs, who posted a massive total on the board but still, Kolkata Knight Riders batter fought hard till the end and was able to reach 205 runs.

There is a bit of concern about the opening pair as Rahmanullah Gurabaz is not really putting up a decent number of scores, and Liton Das is on the bench to replace him, so we might see Liton Das coming into the playing XI against the Mumbai Indians side.

Andre Russell was the only one who was able to take three wickets, but in between his 3rd over, Rusell had to go out of the ground with a niggle injury, and during the chase, he once again failed to score any runs. The other bowlers of Kolkata Knight Riders gave too many runs; the most expensive was Lockie Ferguson, who gave away 37 runs in just 2 overs. The selection of bowling was a bit confusing as Nitish Rana did not give many overs to his main bowlers of the team.

Rinku Singh is a very big positive for them, and they can give him more time to play. They should consider him sending at 2nd down, and Nitish Rana should play 1st down. N Jagadessan can do the wicketkeeping, and then they should let David Wiese play in the XI because he is an experience wicket-taker bowler.
