Ambati Rayudu played a quick innings during the final of the TATA IPL 2023, which took CSK close to the target, and the sensational ending of the match with Ravindra Jadeja smashing 10 runs in the last 2 balls of the match made the day of the CSK fans. This was the fifth IPL title for Chennai Super Kings. Even after a heavy downpour during the start of the second innings, fans waited for a long time to see the winner of the IPL final. After the rain, the target for CSK was reduced to 171 runs with overs reduced by 5, so CSK had to score 171 runs in 15 overs, which was a difficult task, but teamwork made it look easy as each player contributed some runs for his team.
Though MS Dhoni got out on a duck, the CSK’s batters controlled the situation well and managed to win the match in the final over. During the post-match presentation, when MS Dhoni was asked about the match, “Thala” expressed his views on the question of retirement and what is special about Ambati Rayudu. Ambati Rayudu scored 19 runs off just 8 balls which narrow down the chase and ease the pressure on batters.
“The special thing about Rayudu is he will always give his 100% when he is on his field. But with him in the team, I will never win the Fairplay Award. He always wants to contribute and he has been a fantastic cricketer. I’ve been playing with him for a long time, since the India A tours. He’s a player who can play spin and pace equally well. It is something really special. I felt he would do something really special, I’m really happy for him. This game will be one he will remember, he’s also like me – not someone who uses the phone often. What’s important is that he has had a fantastic career and I hope he enjoys the next phase of his life.”
When the trophy ceremony was going on, MS Dhoni let Ambati Rayudu lift the trophy as a gesture of honor to him.
