How Good Are New Zealand And India In The Semi-Finals Of The ICC ODI World Cup?

India and New Zealand are going to clash today in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023.

New Zealand and the host India are going to contest in the first semi-finals of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. New Zealand, after a dominant performance in their last league stage match of the World Cup 2023, beat Sri Lanka to cement their place in the semi-finals. As India finished as the table toppers and was the first team to qualify for the semi-finals, they remained unbeaten in this World Cup, winning all nine matches of their league stage. But the real test of their superiority in the game of cricket will be seen in the semi-finals. Though India has dominated so far in the ODI World Cup 2023, New Zealand was the team that gave them the setback in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-finals.

What Do The Statistics Say?

India reached the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup seven times previously, and in the last three ODI World Cups from 2011 to 2019, India entered the semi-finals in 2011. They won against Pakistan to face Sri Lanka in the finals and defeated them to lift the Cup.

In the 2015 and 2019 semi-finals, they lost to Australia and New Zealand, and their hopes of claiming the ODI World Cup trophy three times were shattered.

If we talk about New Zealand, the Kiwis have entered the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup a record nine times in the 13 attempts; in fact, since 2007, they have been reaching the semi-finals; unfortunately, they couldn’t claim the ICC trophy once as of now. They reached the finals of the ODI World Cup in 2015 and 2019, and though they lost both of their finals, they showed the cricketing world how good they are.

New Zealand defeated India in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2019 and they can do that this time as well, but India is in great form in the World Cup 2023. Both the bowling and batting departments are working well to defeat any world-class team; in fact, India defeated New Zealand in this year’s World Cup as well during the league stage match.

The winner of the first semi-finals would be decided today as India take on New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
