“It all comes down to their squad depth”, R. Ashwin warns Asia Cup teams of Pakistan’s side.

India is undoubtedly the favorite in the Asia Cup 2023, and with the return of some key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer for the Asia Cup, the side is looking quite strong as well, but according to India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who is unfortunately not selected in India’s squad for the continental tournament, Pakistan is going to be another favorite alongside India. Pakistan’s team in recent years has improved their game, and their reaching the finals of the Asia Cup and then the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 shows how strong and consistent their team has become in the last few years, and that’s what R. Ashwin acknowledged about the team.

In his YouTube channel, nnel R. Ashwin appreciated the players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan who have played a vital role in making Pakistan a great side.

“I used to envy looking at the Pakistan side. 5-6 years back, they used to struggle in big tournaments like Asia Cup and World Cup. Yes, of course, they have won big tournaments in the past. They have won the 1992 World Cup and delivered a consistent performance in the T20 World Cup. The main reason for the last 5-6 years’ rise can be attributed to Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.”

He also gave props to Pakistan’s tape-ball cricket tournaments, due to which Pakistan produces fast bowlers who then perform at the world level. R. Ashwin said that the additional advantage Pakistan carries is their experience in playing in different conditions, as Pakistani players play in different cricket leagues around the world, due to which they get easily acclimatized to the conditions of different countries quickly. Like recently in the Lanka Premier League, there were a lot of Pakistani players who played in the league, and as this time the Asia Cup is going to happen in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Pakistan would be having an additional advantage.

“It all comes down to their squad depth. Pakistan have always produced extraordinary cricketers. because of tape ball cricket, they have always had fast bowlers coming through their ranks. Their batting has been special in the late 90s and 2000s. But their exposure to different leagues has been a major reason for their re-emergence in the last 5-6 years. They have PSL. In the recent BBL drafts they were at least 60-70 Pakistan players”

He added

India and Pakistan will lock horns on September 2nd, which will be India’s first match in the Asia Cup 2023.
