Ravichandran Ashwin breaks Anil Kumble’s record as India beats Australia in the second ODI to take a 2-0 lead.

Ravichandran Ashwin made a comeback in the Indian team after months as the off-spinner after playing an ODI match against South Africa in January 2023 wasn’t considered by the selectors for the ODI series afterward in fact he wasn’t included in the Asia Cup 2023 squad but as he got the chance to play for the side in the ODI series against Australia he proved his prowess in spin bowling and broke the record of the legendary spinner of India Anil Kumble. In the second ODI, India after posting a humungous total of 399 runs on the scoreboard, started good in bowling as Prasidh Krishna cleaned Matt Short and Steve Smith back to back before the rain delayed the match.

After the rain was stopped, the target was downed to 317 runs in 33 overs (DLS method), and Australia was two wickets down. Marnus Labuschagne and David Warner started accelerating the scoreboard till Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Marnus Labuschagne through his spectacular spin bowling. After that, he sent David Warner and Josh Inglis to the dugout, and the middle order of the Australian team collapsed. Ravindra Jadeja from the other end dismissed Alex Carey and Adam Zampa and concluded the match by dismissing Sean Abbott as Australia was bundled out for 217 runs.

Apart from Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Surya Kumar Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin was also the highlight of the match, as the spin prodigy, after taking 3 wickets in the second ODI, broke Anil Kumble’s record of 142 wickets in 49 matches (ODI+ Test) that he played against the Aussies. Ravichandran Ashwin, with 144 wickets in 48 matches he played against the Aussies, now becomes the highest wicket-taker of India against the Australian team. India has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
