RCB appoints a new head coach, Andy Flower will be coaching RCB in IPL 2024.

Royal Challengers Bangalore recently released Mike Hessen and Sanjay Bangar from their duties, appointing former Zimbabwean cricketer Andy Flower as the head coach of the franchise. The decision to appoint Andy Flower was made public yesterday by RCB on their official Twitter handle (now X). Mike Hessen, who was director of cricket operations, and Sanjay Bangar, head coach of the RCB, were due to be renewed as per their contract, and the RCB decided not to renew it. They talked with Andy Flower about taking on the responsibility of coaching the RCB as the head coach, and he accepted the offer. RCB’s head and vice president Rajesh Menon went to London to talk with Andy Flower about the proposal before inducting him into the RCB.

Andy Flower has been associated with the IPL for a long time; he coached the Lucknow Super Giants for 2 years and the Punjab Kings before that. The RCB thanked Mike Hessen and Sanjay Bangar for their contributions to building the RCB in these four years. RCB went to the playoffs three times in the last four seasons, and now with a new head coach who has such vast experience in the IPL, the team is hoping to do even better. New head coach Andy Flower is also very excited to work with the players, especially Faf du Plessis, as they both worked together earlier as well.

“I’m particularly excited to be reunited with Faf. We have worked very well together in the past and I look forward to forging our partnership and relationship into something bigger and better”

Andy Flower said

He promised to take RCB to new heights, and even RCB fans are eagerly waiting to see their team lift the IPL trophy for once, as the team has never won the title so far despite reaching the finals three times.

I am really proud to be joining RCB. I recognise the work put in by Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar, who are two coaches I respect, and I look forward to the challenge of taking RCB to new heights,”
