After India’s loss in the WTC final (2021–23) against Australia, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid are facing backlash for the loss. On social media, cricket fans are grilling both Rohit and Rahul for their poor playing approach, due to which India lost against Australia in the final of the WTC. Numerous cricket experts and former players expressed their opinions on team India’s loss, and the legend Saurav Ganguly is one of them who shared his opinion on the future of coach Rahul Dravid and current captain Rohit Sharma. While speaking on India Today, “Dada” backed the duo and said:
“It’s a selector’s job at the end of the day but how does social media influence? Virat himself didn’t want to captain Test cricket two years ago. If you ask me who should be and will be India’s captain and coach? Rohit and Rahul that’s the right way of all,”
Absolutely, at least till the World Cup, this will continue. Well, I don’t know what’s in Rohit’s mind after the World Cup and what he wants to do. At the moment the coach and captain are the two best for India and I wish them all the luck,”Saurav Ganguly on India Today
India again failed to secure an ICC title to its name, and there are issues that need to be addressed soon as the ICC World Cup 2023 is about to start and India is hosting the entire world cup this time, so the pressure on the Indian team would be more as the host country’s team needs to perform their best, and with the approach India is taking going forward, it is a worrying sign for India, but proper assessment of the players and a change in approach can do wonders for India. Saurav Ganguly believes that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid can provide the positive results everyone is looking for, and they are the best in this business.
