Indian left-handed batter Shikhar Dhawan, who was once a regular appearance from the Indian side as an opener, hasn’t been considered for the Asian Games 2023, which are going to happen in September in Hangzhou, China. Shikhar Dhawan once cemented his place as an opener in the Indian team and represented the Indian side in all formats of cricket, amassing runs in all three, but after a series of poor performances by him, the 37-year-old cricketer has now been left out of the team, and a comeback in the team is quite difficult for him right now as India is finding a new opening pair and testing Shubman Gill for that vacant role.
Shikhar Dhawan, after not finding his name in the Asian Games 2023, was quite surprised that he had been overlooked by the selectors, who selected Ruturaj Gaikwad in place of him as captain. Shikhar was shocked after his omission from the team, but he felt happy for the youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad and congratulated him as he is going to represent India at such a big event with a team packed with young talents.
When my name was not there (for Asian Games), I was a bit shocked. But, then, I was like they have a different thought process, you just have to accept it. Happy that Rutu (Gaikwad) will lead the side. All the young boys are there, I am sure they will do well,”

Shikhar Dhawan, even after being left out of the team, is optimistic about his future and is preparing for the upcoming domestic tournaments and the IPL. He expressed his plans for the future, as the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy are nearing and he wants to play in both of them before the IPL. At the end of the conversation, he thanked NCA for shaping his career and making him capable of being where he is today.
I have not spoken to any selector (about my future). I keep going to NCA. I enjoy my time there, the facilities are great. NCA has shaped my career and I am grateful for it. Also I have to prepare for the IPL. I will be playing the Syed Mushtaq Ali and, hopefully, the Vijay Hazare as well,”
