India’s T20I stand-in captain, Suryakmar Yadav, has recently justified his rankings in the 20-over game by becoming the fastest Indian batter to score 2000 international T20 runs. India was facing South Africa at Saint George’s Park, South Africa, in the second T20I. After the first T20I was washed out by the incessant rain, there was a probability that this match would also not happen like the first one, and the prediction of rain was correct as it did interrupt the play. Once it looked like this match conclusion would be the same as the previous one, but weather let the play happen, and South Africa came out victorious (DLS method).
South Africa’s skipper Aiden Markram, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first, and the decision worked in favor of the Proteas as they sent both the openers of the Indian team back to the dugout on a duck. South Africa’s bowlers were roaring, but Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav had different plans, and despite losing two wickets in the beginning, they started taking on the bowlers, with Tilak Varma smashing 19 runs in the over of Marco Jansen, and then Suryakumar Yadav started playing like he used to in a fearless manner, scoring runs in boundaries and sixes.
The number one T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav took a single to complete 2000 runs in the T20I and became the fastest Indian batter to do so. He broke Virat Kohli’s 13-year-old record and became the third fastest batter to score 2000 runs in the T20I. It took Surya 59 matches to score these many runs. Surya went on to score his fifty and built a partnership with Rinku Singh, who also scored his first international T20 fifty.
