South Africa vs Bangladesh: In match number 21 of the T20 World Cup 2024, South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 4 runs to remain unbeaten so far in their group’s league matches.
South Africa’s skipper, after winning the toss, chose to bat first, and Quinton de Kock hit a maximum in the second ball of the match, followed by a boundary, but the pitch started showing its magic as South Africa lost its first wicket in the first over. Reeza Hendricks got out on a duck, and the trouble just started for South Africa as they lost back-to-back wickets. The top order of the Proteas again collapsed. David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen read the conditions well and started batting cautiously. Both batters took the team’s score beyond 100, but Klaasen was dismissed with a score of 44. South Africa’s innings ended with 113/6 on the board in 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 114 runs Bangladesh was looking good though they lost a wicket in the second over of the chase their batters didn’t let the run rate drop as Bangladesh posted 29 runs in the powerplay but from the seventh over when spin attack was deployed by the proteas captain Bangladesh’s innings started crumbling. Mahmudullah and Towhid Hridoy maintained the pace and started building the partnership taking the team’s score to 94 runs. Hridoy got dismissed at the start of the 18th over and Keshav Maharaj held his nerves in the final over of the match to secure a 4 runs victory for his team.

T20 World Cup 2024 Match 21: South Africa vs Bangladesh| Captains’ Corner
You’re always pretty nervous in the final over in a game like that. It was always on a knife’s edge, it can make you mentally tired. It’s always nice to be in them though. Sometimes you get on the right side, sometimes not, but it’s very entertaining. 19.5 (full toss) could’ve gone anywhere, could’ve gone two more metres further and we’d have had a different conversation. Like I mentioned, a few things went our way today, very fortunate on that to get on the right side. (Will Maharaj bowl the 20th over again) Depends on the situation, you want to drag the game as long as you can, so you use quicks to attack. Today was one of those days where the seamers were bowling well, we wanted to drag it to the end where anything could happen in the last over. We’re putting Klaasen and Miller under pressure but they’ve been exceptional.
Aiden Markram(South Africa Captain) said post-match
Everyone was nervous, but were confident when Jaker was there. It didn’t happen but that’s okay. Tanzid really worked hard last couple of games, we needed new-ball wickets and he showed his character. This is the match we should have won, we nearly did but the last couple of overs they bowled well. It can happen in cricket. Rishad is very good, he’s bowled well in the last two games and in practice. We’ve struggled with legspin in 10-15 years but hope he goes far. Wherever we play, we get a lot of support. Hope it’s the same in the West Indies.
