The Grade Cricketer YouTube Channel Received a Legal Notice From the BCCI For Using IPL Content

The Grade Cricketer Received Legal Notice From BCCI

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) sent a legal notice to the famous YouTube channel The Grade Cricketer for using IPL Still pictures.

The Grade Cricketer is a YouTube channel run by two Australian cricket fans, Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, who discuss cricket and its latest developments. They also came to Indian in the recent 50-over World Cup, where they invited many legends and players to talk about.

Why did the BCCI send a Legal Notice To The Grade Cricketers?

The BCCI issued a formal notice to the Grade Cricketers YouTube channel, accusing them of misusing IPL content, specifically still images from matches, which can be used for commercial purposes only, not for additional purposes.

According to BCCI media guidelines, such visual assets can not be used for editorial purposes, and sharing them on platforms like X, YouTube, and many other social media websites is why the BCCI asked them to remove those images from their videos.

What Did The Grade Cricketers do after the BCCI notice?

In response, Perry and Higgins voluntarily removed all IPL-related videos from their media channels. However, in the next podcast episode, they discussed IPL matches without using any still images.

“You may have noticed that every single video from our coverage of this year’s cricket tournament has been removed from YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, Instagram and X,”

“This is something we’ve done ourselves, it hasn’t been done to us, we have removed these videos. On Saturday evening Australian time we received a very polite legal letter about elements of our content from the cricket tournament we speak to you about pertaining specifically to this season.

“As a result we decided to take those videos down,” he added

The Grade Cricketers are known for their humor, which they often bend with their cricket commentary, making their podcast quite entertaining. However, they have occasionally gone over the top with their comments towards players.
