The World Cup winner Australian team captain Pat Cummins was the first one to break the record of most expensive player in the IPL when Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for 20.50 crore because they wanted a captain in their team and also the front line bowler who also could bat down the order. The record-breaking bid came from Kolkata Knight Riders, who signed Mitchell Starc for 24.756 crores to make him their first-choice bowler as they were lacking pace bowlers in their team, and it was Gautam Gambhir who did the bidding.
