Top 5 Batters With Most Runs Scored In A Single IPL Season

One of the most popular T20 leagues in the world, the Indian Premier League, has seen some of the most exciting and powerful hitters since the inaugural season. Some batters in their IPL career have smashed record runs that were once unimaginable to score in a single season, but breaking all the myths, some players have surpassed expectations and scored mountains of runs in a single season of the IPL. Here are the top 5 batters who have scored the most runs so far in a single IPL season. Indian batter Virat Kohli is at the top of the list.

Virat Kohli: 963 runs

Modern cricket great and former India’s captain Virat Kohli is at the top of the list of batters who scored the most runs in a single season of the Indian Premier League. Virat Kohli is one of the most consistent players in the IPL, and all RCB fans saw Virat Kohli in beast mode during the ninth season of the IPL. The right-handed batter in 2016 scored 963 runs at an average of 81.08 with a strike rate of over 150. In the 16 matches he played that season, he hit four tons and led his team, RCB, to the finals of that season.

Though RCB was defeated by David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2016 finals by 8 runs, Virat Kohli didn’t fail to justify why he is called one of the greatest modern-day cricketers. Virat Kohli’s record runs are still there, as no one has ever reached close to the 1000-run mark in a single season like Virat Kohli.

Shubman Gill-890 runs

India’s right-handed batter Shubman Gill is the only batter on the list who was speculated to surpass Virat Kohli’s run mark, but he fell short of reaching the run record and remained at the 890 runs mark, which he scored during the IPL 2023 edition. Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill was so sharp with his batting techniques and power play game during IPL 2023 that it was looking absolutely difficult for the opponents to dismiss the batter. He hit three tons during IPL 2023 and became the first batter to score three centuries in the four matches he played. Shubman Gill scored 890 runs with a strike rate of over 157 and surpassed the overseas batters in terms of run-scoring in the IPL to reach second on the list.

Jos Buttler- 863 runs

England’s right-handed batter is one of the overseas players who has been impressive with the bat and entertained the cricket fans with his power-hitting abilities. Jos Buttler in the IPL 2022 was an unstoppable force; he was looking so hungry to score runs whenever he came to bat. Jos Buttler hit four tons in the 15th edition of the IPL. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals, he scored 863 runs in 17 matches with a strike rate of 147, and at an average of 57, he hit four centuries during the IPL 2022, becoming only the second batter and first overseas player to score four centuries during a season. Unfortunately, his team, the Rajasthan Royals, lost to the Gujarat Titans in the final.

David Warner- 848 runs

Australia’s opening batter, David Warner, is one of those opening batters who is a perfect fit for the role of opener in every format. The left-handed batter is one of the most exciting cricketers to watch, and his best performance in IPL history came during the 2016 season, when the left-handed batter, not just in terms of scoring runs, was the second-best batter in the rankings of IPL 2016 but also led his team Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden title victory. David Warner in the IPL 2016 scored 848 runs with a strike rate of over 150 in the 17 matches he played. Though he couldn’t beat Virat Kohli in terms of runs scored, he guided his team to victory in the finals.

Kane Williamson- 735 runs

New Zealand’s classic right-handed batter Kane Williamson comes fifth on this list with 735 runs scored in a single season of the IPL. Kane Williamson, captaining Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 IPL season, played captain’s knock in every match, and like David Warner, he also led his team to the IPL final. Unfortunately, he wasn’t as lucky as David Warner, and SRH lost to CSK in the final, but during that season, everyone saw the potential of Kane Williamson in adapting his batting style to the T20 format. He scored 735 runs in the season with a strike rate of 142.44. He hit eight fifties during that season and was the orange cap holder of that IPL season.
