Virat Kohli And Debutant Sam Konstas Heated Altercation: Virat Kohli Would Be Fined?

Former India’s test captain Virat Kohli had a controversial “shoulder bump” incident during Day 1 of the Boxing Day test match against Australia. Australia’s debutant Sam Knostas was taking on Indian pace bowlers well in his debut test match while opening for his team. At the end of the 10th over, when Usman Khwaja and Sam Konstas were changing strikes, Virat Kohli jumped into the scene, and the right-handed debutant and Virat Kohli had a shoulder collision. Both looked back and exchanged words until Usman Khwaja and umpire  Michael Gough separated the two.

Commentators were straight to share their views and according to Ricky Ponting, Virat Kohli did that intentionally. While Australian batters were changing the ends, Virat Kohli can be seen charging towards the batter and changing his line.

“Have a look at where Virat walks. Virat’s walked one whole pitch over to his right and instigated that confrontation. No doubt in my mind, whatsoever.”

Ricky Ponting said on channel 7

Would Virat Kohli Be Fined? What Does ICC Rule Say?

According to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the custodians of the laws of the game, “making inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with another player” constitutes a Level 2 offence. This falls under chapter 42.1 of the MCC laws – Unacceptable Conduct

It looks like the Former Indian captain will likely be punished, though the debutant is cool with the Shoulder collision incident and said that such incidents happen in cricket.

I think the emotions got to both of us, I didn’t quite realise, I was doing my gloves, then a little shoulder charge, but it happens in cricket.”

Konstas later told Channel 7

At the end of the first day of the fourth test match, Australia is comfortable with 311/6 on the board. Steve Smith is still on the crease with unbeaten 68 runs.
