As the January transfer window kicks off in 2024, Arsenal is reportedly eyeing Everton midfielder Amadou Onana to bolster their midfield. However, the Gunners might have to break the bank to secure the services of the talented 22-year-old Belgian international.
Arsenal, having already made a significant investment in the midfield by acquiring Declan Rice for £105 million ($133m) in the summer of 2023, seems keen on further strengthening their engine room. The latest target on their radar is Amadou Onana, who has caught the attention of several top clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
Onana, who initially joined Everton from Lille in 2022 for £33 million ($42m), has proven himself in the Premier League over the past 18 months at Goodison Park. His performances have seen his market value skyrocket, and Everton, now reluctant sellers, could demand a hefty fee for his services. According to reports from TEAMtalk, Everton’s asking price for Amadou has soared beyond the £70 million ($89m) mark, potentially reaching as high as £90 million ($114m). This astronomical figure reflects Onana’s development and impact on the pitch, making him a prized asset for the struggling Everton side.
While Everton is reluctant to part ways with Onana, especially amidst a challenging season, Arsenal may test the waters in the coming weeks. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, is keen on adding more depth to his squad as they pursue a title challenge. Onana’s midfield prowess could be a valuable addition. Everton needs to think smart because Amadou is an important part of the team, especially in their current situation. However, Arteta wants him in the team to settle the midfield so they will not leak too many goals, and Onana can also help them in linkup plays.
