Ballon d’Or 2024: For The First Time In 20 Years, There Is No Lionel Messi And Cristiano Ronaldo on The List
The nomination list for the prestigious Award Ballon d’Or 2024 is out, and this is the first time that the two footballing legends, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, are not on the list since 2004.
History of the Ballon d’Or

Messi and Ronaldo’s Journey
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been the stars of the Ballon d’Or for many years:
- Messi has won the award 8 times (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2019, 2021, 2023).
- Ronaldo has won it 5 times (2008, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017).
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most nominated player in the history of the Ballon d’Or award as he has been nominated 18 times, and Messi won the most number of awards, which is 8. Messi is also the 2023 award winner. However, recently, Ronaldo won the award on YouTube after creating his own channel.
They have both been in the top three many times, showing their consistent excellence in football.
