Chelsea Sign Djordje Petrovic from MLS club New England Revolution

Chelsea has agreed to sign goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from New England Revolution for a fee of €16 million, potentially setting a new MLS transfer record for the most expensive goalkeeper. The 23-year-old Serb has been a standout performer for the MLS side, keeping seven clean sheets in 22 games this season. He will join Chelsea as a backup to Robert Sanchez, who joined the Blues from Brighton earlier this summer.
Petrovic started his career at Cukaricki, where he made his debut in 2020. He moved to New England Revolution in 2022, where he quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league. He has also earned four caps for Serbia, making his international debut in 2023.
Petrovic is regarded as a modern goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and can play out from the back. He has been compared to Manuel Neuer and Ederson for his style of play and his ability to launch quick counter-attacks. He is also known for his agility, bravery, and leadership skills.
Chelsea have been looking for a reliable second-choice goalkeeper after Kepa Arrizabalaga left the club on loan to Real Madrid. Petrovic impressed Chelsea scouts with his reflexes, distribution, and commanding presence. He is expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday and complete his move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have already signed eight players this summer, spending over £350 million on new recruits. Petrovic will be the ninth addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, which is aiming to challenge for the Premier League title and the Champions League trophy this season.
