In a recent update from Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, it has been revealed that the much-anticipated debuts of Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia will have to wait a bit longer. The duo, who joined the Blues from RB Leipzig and Southampton in the summer, have been dealing with injuries, delaying their first appearances for the club.
Despite positive signs before the international break, Nkunku and Lavia won’t be available for Wednesday’s match against Manchester United. Nkunku, who sustained an injury during a pre-season friendly, is still recovering. Pochettino expressed hope for his return soon but emphasized the importance of assessing his condition day by day.
On the other hand, Lavia, struggling with an ankle injury since his move to Stamford Bridge, is also ruled out for the upcoming game. Pochettino mentioned that although both players are progressing well, they won’t be part of the squad for the midweek clash.
The Chelsea faithful eagerly anticipate the competitive debuts of these high-profile signings, with Lavia being acquired for an initial £53 million from Southampton and Nkunku joining for the same price from German side Leipzig.
As the Blues prepare to face Manchester United, it remains uncertain if Nkunku and Lavia will be available for the subsequent Premier League match against Everton on Sunday. Pochettino stressed the need to be cautious and patient in the players’ recovery to ensure they return to the pitch in peak condition.
Chelsea is still struggling to find their place in the top five as they sit in 10th position with only 19 points in 14 matches, winning 5 matches 4 draws, and losing 5, but if Nkunku comes back to the team, then it is going to be great for the team as Chelsea lack goal poacher.
