Dest left Barcelona for PSV for a Long-Season loan and the option to buy

Sergino Dest has left Barcelona after two seasons and joined PSV Eindhoven on a season-long loan with an option to buy. The Dutch club reportedly paid 2 million euros for the loan deal, with a 15 million euros option to make it permanent. The American right-back struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Camp Nou and faced competition from Emerson Royal and Sergi Roberto. He decided to seek a new challenge in the Dutch league, where he hopes to play more minutes and regain his confidence.
Dest, 21, made 72 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing four assists. He joined the Catalan club from Ajax in 2020 for a reported fee of 21 million euros. He was the first American player to play for Barcelona’s first team and also the first to score for them. He also won one trophy with them, the Copa del Rey, in 2020/21.
Dest thanked Barcelona for the opportunity and said he learned a lot from his teammates and coaches. He also expressed his excitement to join PSV, a club with a rich history and strong ambition. He said he wants to help the team win trophies and qualify for the Champions League. He also revealed that he is looking forward to playing with his fellow American international Richie Ledezma, who is recovering from a knee injury.
PSV welcomed Dest to their squad and praised his qualities as a defender and an attacker. They said he fits their play style and philosophy of developing young talents. They also said they could make his move permanent at the end of the season, depending on his performance and their mutual agreement.
“PSV were in touch with me every day and expressed a keen desire to get me on board, which was a good feeling. And on top of that, I like the style of football they play at PSV. I think it suits me very well. I return to the Netherlands. I’m still the same player, but I’ve gained a lot of experience, and I’ve hopefully acquired a higher efficiency. I can’t wait to make my debut.”
