Fantastic Moment for Rotorua Women’s Football

The excitement is palpable as we approach the FIFA Women’s World Cup being held in New Zealand and Australia. But even before the big event, there is already a collaborative movement growing within our local community. This Saturday brings a thrilling moment for girls’ and women’s football in the Rotorua region with the arrival of Lindfield Football Club from Australia. They will be taking on the formidable Lakes FC team at Neil Hunt Park, with both clubs sending their U12, U15, and U18 teams to compete. Thanks to the support of WaiBOP Football, the event promises to be a fun and friendly atmosphere filled with high-quality football and entertainment for all. It’s inspiring to see our community come together and support the growth of women’s sports.
Football clubs play an instrumental role in fostering community spirit, particularly in the development of young players. In Sydney and Rotorua, two of the biggest clubs are Lindfield FC and Lakes FC, respectively. Lindfield has been around since 1957 and is a prominent force in the Northern Suburbs Football Association. Meanwhile, Lakes FC is relatively new, having been founded in 2021 through the merger of two former junior clubs. Both clubs are committed to providing female players with opportunities to grow and develop in football, which is heartening to see. It’s inspiring to witness football clubs promoting gender inclusivity, lifting up young girls and women and further advancing the sport.
Lakes FC and Lindfield are more than just football clubs. Both organizations hold a strong belief in the development of their players on and off the field. Lakes FC’s mission to create “great players, better people” and Lindfield’s vision to encourage “sportsmanship, leadership, and discipline” through team-based environments speaks volumes about their dedication to the holistic growth of their athletes. And let’s not forget their impressive record on the pitch, which is sure to make for an exciting match. The upcoming Under-12s game promises to be a thrilling event, complete with a delicious barbecue for all to enjoy. So come on down to Neil Hunt Park to support these talented young players and witness the continued success of these remarkable clubs.
