Jordan Henderson, the former captain of Liverpool, has made an explosive start to his career at Ajax, breaking records within the first 24 hours of his signing. The UK midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Dutch club and has already become a fan favorite, with his new No.6 jersey becoming the fastest-selling in Ajax’s history.
Henderson’s arrival at the Dutch club has caused quite a stir among the fans. The 31-year-old midfielder has already smashed the previous sale records of Dusan Tadic and Daley Blind. Supporters of the club have been scrambling to get their hands on the new jersey, with Henderson’s No.6 shirt being the most popular among them. The only Ajax jersey that has sold more than Henderson’s is the Bob Marley special edition shirt from the 2021-22 season. Regarding individual player jerseys, Henderson’s is by far the fastest-selling in the club’s history.
Henderson’s popularity is not just limited to the Netherlands. His past ties to Premier League giants Liverpool have ensured he is also a big draw in Asia. The midfielder has taken the No.6 shirt vacated by Davy Klaassen and is expected to make his debut in Sunday’s Eredivisie clash with RKC Waalwijk. Jordan’s signing has been seen as a major coup for Ajax. The midfielder has a wealth of experience and has won numerous trophies during his time at Liverpool, including the Premier League, Champions League, and Club World Cup. He is expected to bring a winning mentality and leadership skills to the Dutch club, which is currently third in the Eredivisie standings.
Henderson moved to Ajax after a frustrating six-month spell at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq. The midfielder made just two appearances for the club before terminating his contract and returning to Europe. Many in the football world have praised the move to Ajax, with former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville saying it was a “brilliant move” for Henderson.
Neville added that Henderson’s experience and leadership skills would be invaluable to the Dutch club. The midfielder is expected to play a key role in Ajax’s push for success this season, domestically and in Europe. The club is still in contention in the Europa League and will face Young Boys in round 16 next month.
