La Liga Partners with West Bengal Government for Football Academy in India

The Spanish football league La Liga has announced that it will establish a football academy in West Bengal, India, as part of its global expansion strategy. The league has signed an agreement with the state government to develop and promote the sport among young talents in the region.
La Liga is one of the most popular and competitive football leagues in the world, featuring clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Sevilla. The league has been investing in various markets around the world, such as China, Japan, Mexico, and the US, to increase its fan base and revenue.
The academy in West Bengal will be the first of its kind in India and will offer training programs for players, coaches, and referees, as well as educational and cultural activities. The academy will also aim to scout and nurture local talents who can potentially play for La Liga clubs in the future.
La Liga president Javier Tebas and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Monday signed the agreement. Tebas said that the academy will help strengthen the ties between Spain and India and hopes to see more Indian players in La Liga soon.
Banerjee welcomed the initiative and said that West Bengal is a football-loving state with a rich history and culture of the game. She said that the academy will provide opportunities for young people to pursue their dreams and aspirations in football.
The academy is expected to start operations by early 2024 and will be located in a state-of-the-art facility with modern amenities and infrastructure. The academy will also collaborate with local clubs and schools to promote grassroots football development in West Bengal.
