Liverpool are reportedly on the cusp of agreeing a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount for an astonishing £70million fee. The 24-year-old has been in superb form for the Blues this season, and Liverpool have identified him as a key target ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Reds have been tracking Mount since his breakout season at Derby County in 2018-19, and they are now ready to take the plunge and bring him to Anfield. It is believed that Chelsea have set an asking price of £80million for Mount, but Liverpool feel they can secure a deal for less.
Mount has been one of the standout performers for Chelsea this season, with four goals and two assists in the Premier League. He has also become an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s England team, starting three of their last four internationals.
Liverpool have been linked with a host of midfielders this season, including Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos and Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara. However, it appears that they have settled on Mount as their top target, and the club are now keen to get a deal over the line.
If Liverpool do manage to secure Mount’s signature, it will be a huge coup for the club. The midfielder has already established himself as one of the Premier League’s best young talents, and he could prove to be an integral figure in Jurgen Klopp’s long-term plans.
With Chelsea demanding a hefty fee for their star man, it might be some time before the deal is officially announced. However, Liverpool are determined to get their man and they are expected to do all they can to ensure that Mount ends up at Anfield this summer.
