Rangers Set to Part Ways with Kemar Roofe as Contract Nears End

Rangers FC is preparing to bid farewell to striker Kemar Roofe as his contract edges closer to expiration. Sources close to the club have indicated that Roofe might even depart in January, though a mid-season move is complicated due to his substantial salary and status as one of the club’s top earners.

Roofe, who will turn 31 in the new year, arrived at Ibrox in 2020 on a four-year deal for a fee of approximately £4.5 million. However, his tenure with the Glasgow giants has been marred by persistent injuries, including a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for much of the 2022-23 season.

Under the new management of Phillipe Clement, Roofe has yet to feature for Rangers due to unspecified injury issues, and the club reportedly has no plans to extend his contract.

During the current season, Roofe has made 10 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and one assist. His most memorable stint with Rangers came during the 2020-21 campaign when he scored 18 goals in 36 games across all competitions, helping the club secure the Scottish Premiership title under former manager Steven Gerrard.

Rangers’ forward options have expanded following a busy summer transfer window. Cyril Dessers, Sam Lammers, and Danilo were all added to the squad, but they have yet to make a significant impact.

As Rangers chase league leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, they currently sit five points behind after a convincing 5-0 win over Dundee on November 1st. The team’s next challenge will be against Hearts in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday, November 5th.
